Alexander Khalifman, the FIDE World Champion from 1999 to 2000. As a member of the Russian team, Khalifman also won several gold medals at Chess Olympiads and at the 1997 World Team Championship. He heads the St. Petersburg Chess School and has also made a mark as author of highly acclaimed chess books. "An Opening for White According to Kramnik" counts among his titles, similar books on Anand and Karpov are also available. Viktor Korchnoi, who recently became Swiss Champion at age 78, will play the Champions Simultan as scheduled. No fewer than 200 amateurs will be playing at the simultaneous exhibition on 22 August at Zurich Main Station – in groups of 25 players against one champion. Alongside chess legends such as Spassky and Kasparov, Korchnoi will no doubt try to teach his 25 opponents a lesson.
